ICON - 2005 : INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING - The 4th International Conference on Natural Language Processing (ICON) will be held in IIT Kanpur, India during December 18-20, 2005. The conference series is intended to act as a forum for promoting interaction among researchers in the field of Natural Language Processing in India and abroad. Papers are invited on substantial, original and unpublished research on all aspects of Natural Language Processing, with a particular focus on languages, issues, and applications relevant to India. The areas of interest include, but are not limited to Morphology, POS tagging, Phonology, Parsing, Syntax, Word Sense Disambiguation, Semantics, Machine Translation, Discourse, Information Retrieval, Pragmatics, Text Summarization, Statistical methods, Question Answering, Knowledge-based methods, Dialog Systems, Annotated Corpora, Performance Evaluation, Lexical Resources, Speech corpora, Propbank /Framenet, Speech Recognition, Ontology and Text-to-Speech.
The event is organized by NLP Association of India, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Central nstitute of Indian Languages, Mysore, India and the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

Lesser Used Languages & Computer Linguistics - The aim of this conference is to provide an overview of the state of the art in research on lesser used languages, with special reference to their computational support. Central to the conference are methodological issues such as:
Strategies for an efficient support of lesser used languages, Problems with theoretical approaches developed for major languages when applied to lesser used languages and the cultural, economical and political specificity of a user group for which computational resources are created. Furthermore, the conference intends to promote the networking among participants in order to enhance the exchange of information, experience and resources.
The conference will comprise invited talks and oral presentations and is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg IIIA Italy-Switzerland Programme. The conference is scheduled to be held at the European Academy Bozen/Bolzano, Italy on the 27th and 28th October 2005

2nd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERNET AND LANGUAGE 27th and 28th OCTOBER 2005 - This conference is intended to be a forum of discussion for linguists and researchers in areas such as Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Literary Studies or Translation, among other disciplines, who are involved in the use or study of the Internet, either as a research or teaching resource or as a linguistic phenomenon in itself. Papers have been received in relation to the following panels:
  • Internet and Literary Studies
  • Internet and Translation
  • Internet and Language Use / Linguistics and digital genres
  • Internet and Languages for Specific Purposes
  • Internet and Foreign Language Teaching / Second Language Acquisition
English, Spanish and Catalan are the official languages of the conference. Papers in other languages may be considered depending on their interest in relation to the topic of the conference. The Conference is to take place on 27th and 28th of October 2005 at the UNIVERSITAT JAUME I, CASTELLĂ“, SPAIN.

ICADL 2005 - The 8th International Conference on Asian Digital Libraries ICADL2005 is the 8th in a well-established series of annual conferences on Asian Digital Libraries, and focuses on the creation, adoption, implementation and utilization of digital libraries. It provides an international forum for sharing experiences among researchers, educators, practitioners, and policy makers from a variety of disciplines such as computer science, library and information science, archival and museum studies, and knowledge management, as well as many areas in the social sciences and humanities. The theme of ICADL2005 is Implementing Strategies and Sharing Experiences. The event also celebrates the 50th Birthday of H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Patron of the Thai Library Association. Texas Linguistics Society 9: MorphoSyntax of Underrepresented Languages - For nearly a decade, the Texas Linguistics Society's annual conference has provided a forum for language scholars to learn from one another and from respected researchers in their fields. This year's conference theme focuses on the morphosyntax of underrepresented languages, a topic which is of interest to people working in many fields of language study, including syntax, semantics, morphology, typology, descriptive & documentary linguistics, and historical linguistics. This initiative is supported by the following University of Texas affiliates:
